Vision & Mission

Railways that Safely Deliver

The CRR is committed to advancing railway safety, ensuring fair access to the Iarnród Éireann infrastructure, and monitoring the sustainability of rail transport in Ireland.

The Commission for Railway Regulation is the independent regulatory agency charged with oversight of the safety of all railway activities in the State. In terms of European legislation it is the National Safety Authority and the Regulatory Body for the railway sector in the Republic of Ireland.

To engage with all railway sector participants in a consistent, informed, and professional manner

  • Safety: That railway activities throughout the State are conducted with primary regard to safety
  • Compliance: That railway organisations comply with national and European legal requirements
  • Open Access: That access to the Iarnród Éireann infrastructure is provided in a fair and transparent manner
  • Sustainability: That the Infrastructure Manager delivers sustainable network capacity and economic value to the State
